"Yeah, I agree," Agari said as he continued on in the general direction of the cargo area. "With the secrecy thing, I mean. I don't know if you know this, but I have been doing my own experiments too. Testing my own... powers." The word still sounded funny coming out of his mouth, even after all this time.
"I can assure you, what I can do now is no mere curiosity as far as weird things go. I have gotten better with practice. Ripening fruit is a drop in the bucket compared to what I can do with a plant now. If the wrong person were to find out... I don't know what they would do. But I don't think I want to know either. It wouldn't be good though."
Agari went silent then. Partly because they were just about to the entrance to the cargo bay, but mostly because he had ruined his own upbeat mood for the moment. When he reached the closed doorway he spoke again.
"Here is the moment of truth, so to speak. Can we or can't we get in. Would you like to do the honors, Asher?"

Asher hadn't known that Agari had been practicing, though what he was telling him did confirm Asher's suspicions that these, for lack of a better word, powers would improve with time and practice. That was kind of unnerving for Asher, because he didn't know what would happen with his eyesight if it kept improving.
"That's kind of disturbing," Asher said, not realizing he was saying it at first. "I mean, I kind of expected these.... powers would advance, but it scares me to think what will happen when my own advances. I mean, yours you've gotten better at influencing plant and can do more to them. Me......" His words trailed off. He didn't know what would happen, and it scared him some. He didn't know what he could be capable of when this power advanced to it's fullest potential.
He didn't have long to think on it though. Despite that both of them had ruined their good moods, they had reached the door of the cargo bay and thus Agari broke the silence again.
Asher nodded in response to the question of if he'd like to do the honors and test if they could get in. "Yeah, I can do that."
He went to the door and stood in front of it for a moment. If they got in, then their tests would begin. If they did that, he'd know exactly what he was capable of. Did he want to know? Yes, he decided. Maybe from these results we can even predict where this power will go, so I won't be so in the dark.
He tried the door, and it opened easily. Asher peeked in, seeing no one else inside. "We're in, and we're clear to go," Asher said, turning back to Agari with a smile and pushing the door open so the scientist could push the cart inside. Now came the fun part..... sort of.

Agari pushed the cart in without a word. Extra lights started coming on automatically, and Agari could now see stacks of crates piled almost all the way to the ceiling. It felt almost more like a warehouse than a cargo hold. The Madras sure was a sophisticated ship.
"Wow," Agari exclaimed as he began unloading some of the equipment while looking around. "Back in my hometown on Glace Au Four, you would be lucky to see a park with this much open space, let alone a storage space. Living underground definitely had some disadvantages when it came to extra space. Although it was easier to build in levels, I've been told."
Since he still had more unpacking and setting up to do before they could start, Agari decided to try and get to know more about Asher in the meantime. "So, what planet are you from? You weren't born and raised in space, I'm assuming." Although it was definitely a possibility, he realized.

Asher spent some time stunned by the sheer size of the cargo bay. This was by far one of the largest rooms he'd seen on a ship. He shook himself out of this, though, and started helping Agari unload some of the equipment. It was as he was doing this that he learned something he hadn't realized. Argari had grown up on Glace Au Four too.
Asher spent a moment too stunned to say anything, wondering why he'd never run into the scientist until they'd both boarded the Destiny. Maybe the whole thing came down to an age difference. Or maybe their locations on the planet itself had been far enough apart that it had narrowed the chance that they'd run into each other.
Agari asked Asher where he came from, and Asher finally couldn't avoid saying something. "As coincidental as it seems, I'm from Glace Au Four too." He shrugged. "I guess even in space the phrase "it's a small world" still applies."

Agari froze in place as he was unloading a piece of equipment. Slowly, he turned his head to look at Asher. Asher's home planet had caught Agari off-guard. "You are from Glace Au Four too? Small world indeed."
"I mean, it wouldn't be that big of a coincidence if The Golden Glacier had a bigger space program, but it doesn't. So the two of us ending up on the same ship is... Well, it is a pretty big coincidence, don't you think." Agari shrugged and continued unloading equipment. It was a big coincidence, but that was all Agari saw it as.
"So what part are you from? The Vast Chasms, the Worm Tunnels, the Vertical Labyrinth, Frosty Falls... ? I'm from over by Sporepit, myself. Well, a few hours away, actually, but that's the closest city you would probably recognize."
