What are Powers?
Powers are superpowers, or capabilities often well beyond normal human limits. For the purposes of this roleplay, they are mostly X-men like: each player character has one specific Power. Each Power, for that matter, is different (amongst player characters). At this time there may be no Power duplicates among player characters.
But someone else has the Power I wanted!
Tough break. Unless we reach such a point of activity that most powers are taken, or there are very compelling in-character reasons for two characters to share a Power, I aim to uphold the no-overlap rule. If this rule changes, I will quickly make it public knowledge, though I would not hold out for it.
The Power I want isn't on the list!
Some well-known Powers have been removed from the pool of available Powers. Generally this includes Powers which, at their core, confer godmode-like capabilities on player characters. These include: Mind Control, Mind Reading, Memory Manipulation, Time Manipulation, Probability Manipulation, etc. While of course any Power could be used for evil or good, these have been ruled out not because they are innately "bad," but because they are innately godmodey.
However, if the power you wanted to suggest is not one of the above, feel free to suggest it over at the Suggestions board, or PM me (Mazikeen).
Great! I've got a Power. Now I get to go demonlish entire planets, right?
Unfortunately, no. There is a sort of "leveling" system in place which ensures that those who play more, become more powerful. This system is largely based on post count. At certain milestones, characters' Powers advance in the scope of their capabilities. The graduation system is as follows:
Power Manifestation – 0 Posts
Level 1 – Newly Powered – 50 Posts
Level 2 – Apprentice Wielder – 100 Posts
Level 3 – Professional Wielder – 200 Posts
Level 4 – Expert Wielder – 400 Posts
Level 5 – Master Wielder – 600 Posts
600 posts! Quantity doesn't equal quality!
No, it definitely doesn't. But roleplaying should be about the journey not the destination (of blowing people's heads up with eye-lasers). And though certain story arcs will yeild more character development than pithy back-and-forths about what your characters had for lunch, quantity is directly related to opportunities for development. Think of it this way: you'll have something to look forward to, especially for the beginning stages of playing your character!
*grumblegrumble* Anything else to "look forward" to?
Yep! Go look at the Skills!
