Cultural Upbringing: Richard was brought up by his mother. She taught him about respect, honesty, and loyalty. He also was taught that forgiveness is better than revenge, but it should not be given easily. His mother was killed by some scoundrels when she wouldn’t give them any money. Richard learned to never to trust anyone he just met and always keep your guard up. He also took it upon himself to stand up for those who were too weak to stand up for themselves.
Physical Description: Richard is of above-average build, but his legs are toned from the running he does. He is about six feet tall and has short, blonde hair that is usually spiked. He has blue eyes and a scar over his right eye in the middle of his eyebrow. His face is always serious and sometimes gives the impression that he is in a bad mood.
He usually wears jeans and a shirt, but in the fields he chooses to forgo the jeans and wear shorts to make it easier to run. His posture is unusually loose. It is like he is always ready to react to anything. He also has the tendency to crack his knuckles whenever he is annoyed.
Personality: Richard is seen as an honorable guy. Whenever he makes a deal, he makes sure it is kept. He always honors the choices he makes. He also makes sure that others do the same thing. He may be young but he commands a lot of respect from his fellow workers. He is always interfering on someone else’s behalf. Richard is also respectful. He does not interfere unless he is asked. He always says sir if he is talking to a superior or someone older than him, but just because he shows respect does not mean he trusts that person.
Richard has the manner of a gentleman when it comes to talking to those above him, and he seems like a philosopher when around his friends. He does not mean to change manners, but it happens subconsciously. It is a natural adaptation that keeps him out of trouble. He never notices the change, but his friends tell him that he seems like a different person when he is with them.
After all is said and done, Richard is a free spirit. He wants off of Mout and is looking for a captain that will let him go with them. He will do any job that is required of him. He is also a tinker of weapons. He is fascinated by them and learns everything he can about them. He is also a natural when it comes to animals. It is probably because he is such an animal lover. He would mend small animals’ injuries for them as a child and is called on when any animal is acting up.
History: Richard was born on the planet Mout; he was the third son to a family of harvesters. His older sibling died during farm accidents and his mother was killed by ruffians from a visiting ship. His father was a captain on a ship, but left before Richard was born. He grew up on Mout as a harvester, but soon began to hate it. He learned to mend help animals and how to fix weaponry at the age of twelve by talking to visiting crew members of ships. He was always consulted when an animal was sick or being treated.
When he reached his teens, he was adequate at building weapons and tending to animals. He was taught how to hunt and fish by some of the elderly men on Mout and learned ecology from the workers in the fields. He was taught in school different languages and learned to read and write in them. He was also taught how to plan for battle. It was one of his favorite things to do. In his spare time, he would come up with different simulations in his head and write them down for later. He made it into a game for the younger kids to play on breaks to see how it worked out, but knew it was nothing like the real thing.
At the age of eighteen, Richard jumped on to a cargo ship that came to pick up the raw vegetation that was being picked up. He quickly went in search of a captain that would take him on as a part of his or her crew, but with no luck. He spent the next two years doing odd jobs to keep him alive. He learned many things from these jobs and found out that many things have gone wrong in the universe. After hearing these things, Richard went in search of a captain to take him on as a crew member.
RP Sample: Richard was trying to find himself a job. He had been looking for a captain that needed crew members, but was finding nothing. He had almost given up when he was approached by a woman.
“You looking for work or are you looking for trouble?” she asked.
“Couldn’t it be the same thing? Work can be trouble depending on what kind it is. Why do you ask? You in need of some workers?” Richard replied. “What kind of work is it? Actually, I don’t care. I take it.”
“Well, alright then. Follow me.” She started to leave the bar, but turned around to say, “You any good with a gun, kid?”
“I am not a novice if that what you’re asking. I can shoot with the best of them and probably better than most anyone in this bar,” Richard replied.
“Good. Take this.” She handed him a pistol and some ammo. “You are going to need that where we’re going.”
“Where are we going exactly?” He started to load the pistol and slid it into the empty holster that he had acquired somewhere.
“Just follow me and keep that pistol handy just in case something happens.” She continued walking until she reached a building with guards out front. “The kid and I have business inside.” She gave the men a petrifying glare to make them move. She walked through the door into the dark room. “Hurry up kid.”
Richard followed her through the door and I am in over my head he thought to himself.
