Profession (Current): Communications Technician
Profession (Past): Student
Marital Status: Single
Home World: Bitumen
Religious Beliefs: Atheist. Karyl doesn't believe in any higher powers. And why should he? Nothing ever answered his prayers to better his life.
Socioeconomic Status: Lower Middle Class. That is why he picks up a few minor, odd "jobs" from time to time, usually involving some type of dishonest labor. But hey, as long as no one gets hurt, it's okay, right?
Cultural Upbringing: Karyl was taught one thing in his childhood. Always watch your back. His parents never looked out for him much, unless he got in trouble that could negatively effect them. Also, since he managed to survive, Karyl has become very independent and only looks out for himself. What else could you expect with his home planet?
Physical Description: Despite growing up on Bitumen, K.J. has pretty pale skin, but through choice and not abnormality. He has just spent years inside, completing college, taking jobs that required his special skills, and staying away from danger. He always wears dark colors, creating a sharper contrast to his skin and eyes, which are light blue. His hair tops him off, being a brownish-blonde color.
He is also on the short side, maybe 5’8 only. There is hardly any muscle on him, but no fat either, making him pretty thin. Karyl normally wears tight clothing, which he can easily pull off, except for his job uniform.
Personality: Karyl is focused solely on himself. Everything he does comes from that. If something might place him in serious danger (danger he can’t escape from), then he simply doesn’t do it. If he makes friends, it usually takes a while and a few background checks for him to greet someone with a smile. If he takes a side job, he makes sure that he won’t be caught or sought after for revenge. He never accepts charity as he believes that it leaves him in debt, something he has resolved to never be in again.
Now, once Karyl is sure that he is protected, he can be an almost different man. He is usually very relaxed in almost every environment that he’s comfortable in; almost to the point of laziness. He usually doesn’t care about anything, but he makes sure that he always does enough to allow him to keep his job. He is also known to be a prankster. He has set countless (but harmless) “jokes”, as he calls them, in various peoples’ computers, either his friends’, or people he doesn’t like. The pranks range from altering profiles to say random things, to faking messages from other people.
With trusted people, Karyl can be almost reckless to the point of insanity. He will do almost anything that won’t threaten him just to impress his friends. In fact, one of his largest fears is to lose a friend, something that he had never had as a child. His other fears are of losing anything. He never wants to be in a position like he grew up in again.
History: Born into a family bond together by money and lust, Karyl never had the ideal childhood. He spent pretty much all of his childhood on his own, trying to survive. Early on, he learned to listen to his parents and never trust anyone. As a result, he never really had any relationships because he didn’t trust them, which was usually better in most cases.
Since Karyl had always been pretty small and weak compared to everyone else within three years of him, he never had much luck in gangs or in physical dealings. It only took him a few broken limbs to learn that. He also lived with bruises all over, souvenirs from the few times he couldn’t pay his way out of unfortunate situations.
When he turned fourteen, he began learning how to mess with computers. He also had a mentor of sorts help him to learn a useful trade. The mentor was one of the nicest people on Bitumen, but that wasn’t saying much. But the man still taught Karyl enough about how to bypass firewalls and security systems to start earning a less painful income. The old man also taught Karyl a few more skills that could be useful, like picking a lock or picking a pocket. He soon learned by himself how to blend into crowds and become unnoticed, a valuable skill to escape “collectors” or to make a quick getaway with a wallet.
Within four years, he managed to save enough money to buy a ride off planet to attend the cheapest college he could find that dealt with computers. He landed at a school for Communications. It was there, periodically raising his grades, liberating a few wallets, and finding test answer keys in classrooms, that he stayed for four years before graduating from the college, in some of the top of his class. Then, he somehow managed to get a position aboard a starship as a Communications Technician. Well, it did involve some extra work on his part, but he still got it.
Then Earth vanished and Karyl noticed something odd about himself.
RP Sample: (I should totally quote something from the Kid Farms XD.)
Johnny couldn't help himself. The effect of his teasing had made Leroy leave his station. That was just too cool! And he had another way of 'bugging' him. He went around to the other side of the booth and bought a ticket from Wendy. Then he went into the aquarium. Once inside, he found a shaded spot, one that was out of view of everyone.
He stripped off his jeans (and put his wallet in the pocket of his shorts). Then he morphed into the wasp. The process was disgusting like it usually was, but he was glad that there were no mirrors. Then, using all of the wasp’s senses, he retraced the short path he had just taken as a human and was back in the lobby within ten minutes. He landed on the ticket booth ceiling, hanging upside down from it, a foot away from a large clock. From there, he could roughly make out the time.
Then he spoke to Leroy in thought-speak. <<C'mon! You didn't answer my question! Have you asked Wendy out yet? I'm being serious, man! By the way, where are you?>>
