Religious Beliefs: Agnostic, and generally pretty apathetic about it.
Socioeconomic Status: Exceptionally, extraordinarily wealthy. The catch is that she doesn’t have access to most of it, due to going AWOL from her previous employers. Still, fairly well off.
Cultural Upbringing: Akana’s parents taught her to be wary of people with authority, and to only trust the fruit of one’s own labor. They expected little pay for a great deal of hard work, and rejected anything else as being shameful. Luxury was considered decadent and a sign of a disgraceful lifestyle. When she began to work for Paradise Inc., she cleanly left those words of warning behind.
Physical Description: Moving with the grace of some big cat, Akana’s gestures are usually very controlled. She has a way of making every step, turn, and eyebrow arch seem immaculately placed. Her slender frame obscures her extensive knowledge of many different styles of martial arts, and her capabilities in physical conflict.
Akana tends to wear luxurious fabrics in darker hues. Her clothing is generally all designer quality, though it is as generally fashioned for flexibility and versatility as it is for style. Though she has an affinity for pricey attire, she prefers simplicity and purity over gaudiness. Her tastes are exceptionally refined.
Personality: Akana is many things to many people: generally, she is whoever her employers at Paradise ask her to be. Outwardly, she tends to be very enigmatic, but also cooly charming. Some find her ability to be so calmly relaxed and yet so attuned to one person to be flattering. Others find it unnerving, too much like being sized up by a predator.
She is impeccably well mannered, not only demure by default, but also clearly learned in the cultures of many different peoples and places. Akana is good with handling people, as well as animals. Acquaintances tend to find her to be polite, mild, and lukewarm—alternating between short displays of friendly gestures and longer periods of cooler regard.
Inwardly, Akana is little more than a highly trained sociopath with enough intelligence and willpower to keep that part of her in check. She has a sadistic streak a mile wide, and though she can settle for enjoying more subtle, emotional pain, she delights in seeing physical pain as well. She does not form close ties with anyone, and the nearest thing she has to a confidant is her employer, a Paradise Inc. agent. For Akana there are people who are fair game for hurting, and people who you have to settle for mocking by pretending to care about their trivial lives… while imagining hurting them.
History: Akana’s parents didn’t work in the Phaestus mines, but they worked on a farm nearby a mining town. Though the soil was rich and fertile, the pollution from the town’s refineries often caused problems with irrigation. Though her parents often talked about having other children, they were unable to have more. After several late-term miscarriages, the talk of siblings stopped.
On a regular day when Akana was eight years old, she came home from school to find her parents slaughtered. They had been shot dead by an escaped convict. As terrible as the crime was, she never felt exceptionally torn up over it: she felt guilty over that for a while, but eventually stopped spending the energy it took to keep that up.
After bouncing around foster homes for several years, Akana was brought into Paradise. The methods were illegal, but the company had a way of greasing enough palms to get their hands on children and minors, which fetched a high price on the slave market. Rather than becoming a slave, however, Akana was adopted by the policing branch of the company. Under the wing of wealthy patrons, she received an expensive private school education, and never wanted for any material object. Her mental exercises were rivaled only by her physical training.
By the time she reached sixteen, Akana was already doing small jobs for Paradise as a messenger. It wasn’t much longer before she was on the payroll as a slave runner, returning escaped slaves into the company’s custody.

"I can- I should." Suji sighed. "We did the right thing. If you want... it doesn't matter to me what you tell Raven. I mean, I don't exactly want to face her right now or anything, but your relationship with her is obviously more important than my relationship with her. If she needs someone to blame," Suji looked up at him, expression serious. "I can be someone to blame. That part won't phase me any more than this mess already has."
Yes, that was the truth. If Raven had to come down on her, breathing smoke and fire and screaming fury, well, Suji could withstand that. Not that she was looking forward to it, and she figured Riley would defend her as best as possible (or at least take as much blame as she did), but their leadership had to be unified. Without Raven, Riley had no Cassie-approved authority, and without Riley, Raven was--at the end of the night--nothing more than a pregnant woman who knew the sides of the war but couldn't fight in it. Maybe seeing them as two parts of one leader was not exactly best (or most polite) thing, but it was closer to the truth than anything else.
"She should probably start before the sun's all the way up. Do... do you want me to send her out?"
