Profession (Current): Luce is a pilot of her own ship. She finds whatever work she can. The ship was designed as a luxury cruiser for one but that one was extremely powerful and the ship is quite large enough to house Luce and her family along with a few passengers. She hires the ship out as a luxury cruiser to anyone willing to pay.
In rougher times or just rougher parts of the universe she's been known to look the other way if someone wants to put something contraband in her cargo bay. It's not her ideal work but she does what she needs to to get by.
Occasionally she has hired out the ship for extended vacations to exotic planets. In these cases she may also sell her skills as a body guard and a mercenary to protect her client. Her experience on some of the less explored planets would have honed her survival instinct if it wasn't there already. But she has learned how to look for valuable resources that may be sellable in more populated parts of the universe.
Profession (Past) Luce doesn't talk about her past much. She's not ashamed of it but there is no reason to relive it either. Besides, she doesn't want to be tracked down and asked tons of recon questions since she knows the UIR is looking for information on Roken.
Back on her home planet of Roken she was one of the few rebel fighters the planet had. The profession, if it could be called that, left its skills and its scars. When she had a chance to escape she took it. But those who know her past don't wonder where she learned how to defend herself, a useful skill in her current line of work.
Marital Status: Married. It was never made official by a religious or a government official and Luce and her mate see no reason to do so. They have two children and they've been together for years.
Home World: Roken
Religious Beliefs: There's no way you can know if God exists or not so why worry about it.
Socioeconomic Status: Middleclass. They get by. Never too rich but never too poor and, most importantly, free.
Cultural Upbringing: Luce grew up in the days when Roken was an inner ring planet. Her family was on the top end of middle class, which was to say they were wealthy. She wasn't raised with any special ideals or goals. She went to school and hoped to go away for college.
Physical Description Luce stands a tall 5'3". Muscle is wrapped around bone but her frame has always been thin. Over the past 6 years of good living she's actually managed to build up a layer of fat under her skin so she doesn't look quite as scrappy as she used too.
Her long black hair is wavy and unruly when it gets wet. She used to keep it shorter but she lets it grow now and it falls just past her shoulders. Her skin is a little too pale for the sunnier climates and she's a big believer in sunscreen. Her green eyes are clear but can be intense. She has finally lost her tendency to stare constantly but sometimes they get a far off, troubled look as she remembers things better forgotten.
She has no special interest in style. She wears jeans and t-shirts or thermals depending on the climate. She has a worn leather jacket that she keeps around and a pair of black boots that are far from new but have only gotten more comfortable with age and use. In more relaxed settings she's acquired loose fitting cloth pants that may be called pajama's if she allowed them to be called such. She even has a pair of nice slippers she's buried in her closet out of embarrassment but that she wears if its been a rough day.
Personality: Luce is pretty straight forward. She doesn't like beating around bushes or extended, meaningless small talk. She's not overly harsh however, just honest and its a quality she values in others.
Your first impression of her may leave you feeling like she's a bit stand-offish or cold. She may also give the impression of being dull or unintelligent. But its just because she doesn't waste time making a good impression on those she won't see again. She isn't rude but she doesn't pander either. If you like her that's fine and if you don't that is fine as well. She embraces a live and let live philosophy and is perfectly willing to make friends or leave it as strangers.
She's also more intelligent and insightful than she can appear at first glance though she'll often keep her insights to herself. She doesn't like to impose her opinion on others and sees it as only useful for her own impressions and attitudes. She is very much against interfering in other's lives even as small an interference as offering an opinion unless she's asked.
She likes spending her off time reading. She's extremely curious about all the academic topics she missed out on and has accumulated quite a book collection in the past six years. Most of the books relate to useful skills as well as being interesting. For example she may have picked up a book on Mout if she planned on visiting it. Not all of her books are purely utilitarian however. She does read a lot of histories and usually keeps up with a few reliable news outlets and journals.
History: Luce was your average inner ring teenager. She did well in school and certainly had the good grades to get into decent to top range colleges. While school was never a passion for her it was the job she was given to do and she's always been adept at devoting herself to the task at hand. So there were only A's and B's in her school files.
As far as social life went she wasn't disliked. She never made friends easily and had no close friends to speak of but she got along well enough with everyone at her high school and was respected. Her teachers liked her and her peers would nod in the hallways if they'd had that one class together last year.
At home Luce had a slightly rocky relationship with her parents. Her mother and father, while loving, didn't really understand their independent daughter. Both parents worked for a living and had important and well paying jobs and they would often come home to find Luce buried on the nets, watching something interesting or playing a new game. She didn't mind spending time on the net though she wasn't obsessive about it. It just seemed like the only thing to do once homework was taken care of.
That all changed Luce's senior year in high school. That was when the naz invaded and crushed the weak human resistance. The UIR was just starting to include Roken in its sphere of influence and the Fleet was no where near by. By the time the Fleet arrived Roken was not only subdued, it was heavily infected. That was what really kept the Fleet and the UIR away. They couldn't risk the infection spreading to other human planets. And so Roken was abandoned and its people right along with it.
Luce wasn't sure what happened to her family. She was captured while away from home and not by the large teams that were rounding up the humans in general. She was taken by a mid level naz named Lassic. She was one of the first to find out that the naz weren't a new infection but had been scouting the planet for the past three years, infecting a few people at a time. Unfortunately she found out the hard way. Lassic was tired of his current host and he wanted something younger, something stronger and, most importantly, something different. He found that something different and abandoned his first host, Aidan, and took over Luce, leaving Aidan bleeding and dying.
Luce spent 3 years as his slave before Lassic was sent to infiltrate the nascent human resistance and got caught. The free humans locked Luce in a lightless room with no food and no water for days. They couldn't risk light leaking in as they delivered food and water so she nearly died of dehydration. When they finally let her out they had to nurse her back to health but once she regained her strength as a free human she joined the cause.
Luce was often sent on the most dangerous missions after that, mostly because she volunteered. Not sure what she was fighting for, (revenge, hope for the future she didn't plan to see, suicidal depression) she wasn't sure how she felt about the fact that she kept coming back alive.
Eventually she got shipped out to help start a new rebel cell in a different city which is where she ran into an old acquaintance in the form of Lassic's ex and illegal lover. Naz did not want their people becoming too human, going too native, so relationships of any kind were strictly prohibited. But that didn't mean they didn't happen, just that you didn't get caught.
Faced with one of the naz who had helped take her freedom away and still held some poor human woman as a host, Luce would have expected herself to be bent on revenge or at least freedom. Instead she developed feelings for her ex-jailor and had the damnest time explaining them or reconciling them with her life.
When the feelings were returned Luce's world was really thrown into chaos and the illicit relationship put them both in danger as well as the causes they fought for. Eventually it was discovered by naz officials and they both had to leave the planet to escape a death penalty.

Luce was silent as Sedra defended the empire's actions. She didn't really care what the justification for the destruction of Sarisal or the creation of the virus was. There would always be a justification, a reason, an excuse. People would always find a reason to kill each other, to hate each other and the war would continue. Luce had once believed that maybe she and Sedra could help break that cycle but she had given up hope of that.
Even if she wanted to be with Sedra she could never just be with Sedra. She could never relax and just enjoy Sedra's company. There was always three of them here, even when they managed to shut the war out.
Luce looked angrily away for a moment when Sedra started to blame the rebels for the Hive break in. Didn't she understand? It didn't matter whose fault it was! What mattered were that people, some good some bad but all of them people, were dead. A lot of them. Blaming one or the other would do no good. They had both done this and yet each side just wanted to shrug off the responsibility and claim it wasn't their fault so that the next time they considered doing something horrendous they could honestly claim they had never done anything like that before and so had never had a chance to learn from their mistakes.
Luce was tired of it. She was tired of fighting in a war that seemed to have no end. And she was tired of being the arm and the trigger finger of monsters that just wanted to keep this war going. All she did was kill people. And even the one place where she helped create something good, helped raise Andrew and Eva, even that was spoiled by the war and the hatred that existed between the naz and the humans.
After a lifetime of dreaming of becoming a fighter pilot, three years spent fighting against the enemy inside her head and another three years spent killing naz where ever she found them...Luce discovered she was a pacifist. She didn't want to kill anymore. She didn't want to hurt people. She didn't want her friends to die. She didn't want to choose between being with Sedra or killing her conscience just to get it to shut up.
She was tired of hard choices that led to nightmares in the middle of the night. She had been willing to die for this cause but the universe had decided that death was too easy. To live with this war, day after day, to have the death and destruction constantly wear her soul down to nothing until she was an unfeeling monster who had to work at loving anything or anyone, that was hell. A hell no one had told her about when she'd signed up to fight.
And why should she do this? Why should she sacrifice her humanity? So that one more naz would never see the sun rise? There needed to be more than that. Months ago Luce had told Suji that she needed to fight for something more than to just keep breathing while her enemies didn't. She needed hope, light at the end of the tunnel. She needed a life outside of this war.
And this was it. But it wasn't enough. Because even here the war was every where. It had charged right into their living room and ripped everything apart. Luce couldn't do it anymore. She was quitting.
Sedra told her to throw away the communicator. Instead Luce just turned away and set it down on the kitchen counter. Let Sedra figure out how to get rid of the thing safely. Luce didn't want it to fall into the wrong hands just because Sedra had ordered it carelessly thrown away in a fit of anger. And the last sentence had been motivated by anger. Luce knew her well enough to know that and to know that she had just been shut out. The unfeeling mask was back, the walls were back down and Luce was on the outside. Not that she'd expected anything different, but it still hurt to see it. Then again she and Sedra had spent the past few months hurting each other in small ways. Better to make a clean break now. Maybe it would heal...or maybe it would just hurt.
Luce opened the back door and was about to leave the house the way she had first entered it when she stopped and turned around. She couldn't leave without saying something. She couldn't let the last things said between them be words of anger.
She looked at the woman standing unnaturally still in the middle of the living room they had made their home, stiff with anger and pride, her icy blue eyes nearly burning with it, and she felt a moment of panic and sick fear that only accompanies the anticipation of pain. "I love you Sedra." She had never said it, never out loud. The words carried more weight than she thought they would and yet they hadn't been hard to say. They were true.
"Leaving now doesn't change that...I wish it did. It would be easier that way. Tell Eva and Andrew that I love them." She turned away and walked out the door. Once she was out of sight she began to jog across the backyard. She wanted to get as far away as possible and it would have taken her time to sneak out the front. She wasn't surprised to feel tears in her eyes for the second time that day, this time for a completely different reason.
When she had climbed the fence that separated Sedra's yard from the house behind it and had dropped out of sight behind the wood she allowed herself to slow down and plan her next actions. Three minutes later a hoover bike was liberated from its owner and she began making her way back towards the base, a faction that would still be reeling over the loss of an entire city, and a war she no longer wanted to be a part of.
Luce no longer knew where she fit in in this world but she was sure she'd have no time to think about it. There never seemed to be enough time between disasters and battles to really think about anything. Maybe that was how the gods of war wanted it. It kept you from wondering why you were participating in and helping to perpetuate an insane act of mass murder all the while sacrificing the things that were really important.
As Luce sped away from the only family she had left she decided that she had made her last sacrifice to this war. She was getting out.
