How can I contact an Admin?
The best way to contact an Administrator is through in-site PM. At this time I am the only PM, which means Greg. Greg is the account I sign into most of the time for admin-ly duties, so that is the best option.
Since there are aliens in this universe, can I play one?
At the moment (and for the foreseeable future) no. Exodus will be starting off with player-character ships located near the Core planets, where the only contact with aliens is generally via ambassadors on Earth.
Namely, Exodus will be (or at least start, depending on how the plot evolves due to character development) as a story about humans and humanity. Alien encounters will be more frequent at the outer reaches of human territory. Depending on many factors, that is the point when alien player characters might be more feasible. However, there will certainly be no rush to get to this point, and it is not a bridge I wish to attempt to cross before we come to it.
Can my character be a politician/queen/rockstar of great influence and renown?
Possibly. While any characters that would have been "famous" before Earthfall are certainly allowed, the applications for them will be scrutinized a bit more than the average character. A well fleshed out history will be particularly critical, but the bottom line is, each player character on Exodus is meant to be special--whether publicly or privately, if they know it or not.
That said, you can only have so many princesses and interplanetary popstar idols running around. If we've got enough royalty to make a poker player swoon, I probably won't be too receptive to another heir to the throne.
If you want to do something truly fantastic (the ruler of Earth, or the Commander of the UIR, for example) you'll need to PM an admin.
Can I have my own ship?
Ships, where possible, will be Captained by player characters. Captains chose the design of their ships, what they are used for, and how they are run. While this has obvious benefits if you're the type of person that extra control over the plot appeals to, it also comes with obvious (and some not as obvious) responsibilities.
Captains are held to higher standards that regular members. This doesn't mean they have to be posting fiends, but if someone is continually holding up threads for days or a week at a time, they probably aren't Captain material. Above all, they must be someone that the administration trusts to keep the best interest of the site in mind, and to set a good example for the rest of the members on the site.
Can I have more than one character?
Yes. Anyone may have up to two characters without any special permission necessary. However, if you would like more characters, I ask that you PM me (Greg). My general philosophy is that a person should be allowed as many characters as they can keep active.
However, it is also the unfortunate truth that sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. And it is much harder (on both the player and the admin) to penalize someone who posted with spectacular regularity with two characters, but suddenly found him or herself overwhelmed when they took on another.
So I ask that anyone considering taking on another character be very sure that they have the time and desire to develop the character without sacrificing the quality of their other characters. If I do not think you're up to it, do not be too discouraged. You can feel free to ask again later on (about a month would be an appropriate waiting period -- not the next day, please).
For each character that you have, you must create a separate account. This can be a pain with logging in and out, but as post counts are an important measure on Exodus, it's a necessary evil.
Can I be an android/cyborg?
Yes. However, you will need to PM an admin for permission. Keep in mind that there is a great level of prejudice against androids (synthetic machines built to model humans), and openly being an android will incur a great deal of hostility open your character. Also, being an android may prevent you from getting a power (PM an admin).
Being a cyborg (part machine, but born human) will not necessarily equate with the same problems as being an android, and will have lesser complications.
Are animals in Exodus like animals on (our) Earth?
Mostly. There are certainly more alien-like species, but most of the animals that player in Exodus will encounter will be very similar to the types of animals found on our Earth. There may be slight to moderate differences based on size, proportions, coloring, etc, but generally they will be "based" off of a real animal. There may be some exceptions to this rule, but if you plan on making them a big exception, please PM an admin.
Plants are handled much the same way.
Is there anything like the Internet for the planets, or the ships?
Yes, there is. While Internet access is highspeed and free on just about every planet that maintains servers, connection between planets themselves is quite expensive. The server requests must go through jump points (like ships) and upkeep for these points is costly.
Most ships have Internet connections, and can easily access the servers of nearby planets -- if they are granted permission and encryption keys by outpost authorities. Deep space, however, isolates most ships from Internet services on planets; only specially designed ships are capable of accessing databases in real time from long distances away.
