Marital Status: Married. Twice. But neither wife knows he is also wed to the other. He also probably has a kid or two, but he isn’t sure about that one.
Home World: Phaestus
Religious Beliefs: Atheist. He does not believe in a higher power.
Socioeconomic Status: He has had his highs and lows, but seems to have stabilized somewhere in the middle. Even when he doesn’t have a middleclass income, he still manages to sustain a middleclass lifestyle.
Cultural Upbringing: Harry learned at a young age that you had to do what it takes to fend for yourself. His mother hardly paid him or his sister any attention, and so they were left to fend mostly for themselves. His sister, who was six years older, left when she was fourteen and he never saw her again. Harry himself left home when he was only twelve, figuring the world couldn’t be any worse than his home.
Harry soon found that it was easier to get by in life if you lied than if you told the truth. He has stuck by that idea during the years to come. Every time he went somewhere new, he would take on a new persona and see where it led him. He has had no moral qualms about this sort of lifestyle. After all, for all they knew, it actually was the real him, so what was the difference?
Physical Description: Harry is slightly tall, dark skinned, and has an average build. He seems to have a lot of character, which is why people often decide to give him the benefit of the doubt. When he isn't trying to fool someone, his face often has an air of confidence. Like he is always very sure of himself. Harry has also accepted that he will probably never be considered overly handsome, but isn't ugly as dirt either.
Recently Harry has been wearing a lot of nice clothes to keep up his ruse. He doesn't usually mind the style as long as it is comfortable. When going out on 'official religious duties,' Harry wears decorative robes. He also carries an ornamented staff with him that can double as an impromptu weapon if need be. Luckily he hasn't needed to resort to that yet.
Personality: Harry is a liar by nature. If he thinks he can get ahead by fabricating a story, he’ll do it in a heartbeat. However, he tries not to go overboard. He knows from experience that if he spins a web of lies too great, it is all too easy to get tangled up.
Harry also has a thing for money. If wealth is within his grasp, he will reach for it and run. He isn’t shortsighted, however. He will stick with something and pass up a lot of small rewards in exchange for one big one. (That was the basis of one of his marriages)
Harry doesn’t exactly have a good side, but he does have a not bad side. He doesn’t do good deeds just for the sake of doing them, but he doesn’t kick people when they are down either. Unless the person really deserves it. First and foremost, Harry looks out for himself.
History: Harry was born and raised in a small mining town on Phaestus. The town was full of lowlifes, but Harry knew no other life, so he thought that was just how it was everywhere. Presumably his father was a miner, but his mother never felt the urge to tell him or his sister before both of them eventually left her behind.
After leaving his hometown at the age of twelve, Harry set out towards a larger city. There he saw that the world was different and not everyone expected to be lied to and cheated. He was able to take advantage of this for quite some time until people eventually caught on and he had to skip town. He repeated this pattern several times in different cities before eventually hitching a ride to a different planet.
It was in the last of these cities that he met his first wife. He cared for her enough that he planned on only running small bootlegging business to supplement his wages as an honest workingman. But he got into some trouble and had to leave his wife behind. He thought he would miss her and eventually return for her, but after a few weeks he realized she was just holding him back from his full potential.
Years later, after traveling to several planets, Harry eventually heard about Earthfall. He was shocked at the news, but it didn’t take him long to recover. He began formulating a plan for one of his most ambitious schemes yet. He would use Earthfall as a basis for a new religion. A religion that he was in charge of. A religion that he would reap all the benefits from… He took on the alias of High Priest Bartelby The Anointed and set out to see what he could accomplish.
RP Sample: "I'm not sure. I think this is worth more than a measly 13 spades. I'm thinking it is worth at least 18." Harry was in the middle of trying to sell a poor guy some medicine he needed for his daughter. He couldn't afford to buy name-brand medicine from the store, so he had taken a walk down shade street and landed at Harry's corner.
"But I only have 13, Mr. Tiller. Can't you find it in your heart to lower your price? Just this once?" The man looked as if he was about to burst out in tears.
"Fine, I'll tell you what. If you throw in that nose-ring you got, I'll sell you the medicine for 13 spades." Harry acted as if he were doing the guy a genuine favor.
"My ring? But my wife gave that to me for our anniversary two months before she passed away." The man seemed to think for a long while, but finally spoke up again once more. "Fine, I'll take it. I really need that medicine." He took out his nose ring and handed it over along with his 13 spades. Harry gave the man his medicine in return.
As the guy began walking away, Harry called out to him. "Hey, wait a minute. Here, take one spade back. I can't send you home with no money. What kind of person would I be? Just make sure not to spread the word around that I did this. I could lose my reputation."
"Wow, thanks Mr. Tiller! And don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
Harry doubted it. Actually, he was counting on it. He figured it would be good for business. Besides, the guy just bought from him a bottle of pills worth no more than 5 spades, that had expired two and a half years ago. It was the least he could do.
